Dear Parents / Carers,

We are planning 1:1 sessions with all year 10 students. These will start on Monday 15 June, and are compulsory. If for any reason your child cannot make the session they have been allocated, please contact Mr Evans (devans@hornchurchhigh.com) as soon as possible.

Rationale
There are several reasons we want year 10 to come in for a meeting this term. The main ones are as follows:

• The students will have been out of school for more than 12 weeks and a return to school, in any capacity, is almost certainly a positive move emotionally / socially if nothing else

• The students will have an opportunity to feed back to a member of staff regarding the lockdown experience on an educational and personal basis. They will be given the opportunity to raise concerns and to ask for assistance where necessary. Staff will be there to offer positive strategies and will pass on any concerns to relevant colleagues

• Subject teachers will be able to outline what the next steps are over the next few weeks and to offer reassurances regarding September and the next academic year

How will the face to face contact be managed safely?

• The year group will be divided into groups, with approximately 10 students per group

• 4 groups will be asked to attend school each day (40 students per day, which is about 25% of the year group)

• All students will have a 20-30 minute 1:1 session with a teacher. This will be outside, if possible. If it isn’t possible to meet outside, we will sit in the hall, sports hall or gym with all doors / windows open

• Cleaners will be in all day

Who will the students meet when they come in?

• There will be 15-20 adults on site each day. 10 of these will carry out interviews, and the others will be on gate duty or on toilet duty to ensure social distancing is observed at all times

• All students will have a 1:1 chat about how they have got on so far, and what we can do to support them over the coming weeks. They will also be given a list of topics which they must revise / study ready for September

Additional notes

• The meetings are compulsory – please contact Mr Evans asap if your child cannot make the meeting for any reason devans@hornchurchhigh.com

• Please avoid public transport if possible

• Please speak to your child before they arrive to make sure that they are as ready as possible to speak to the member of staff they will be interviewed by – this is their chance to ask questions, and get help

I will also be organizing a zoom meeting for all year 10 families over the next couple of days. You will receive a parentmail with the times and the link to join in.

In the meeting, I will explain why we are holding the face to face meetings and how our distance learning is being organized over the coming weeks.
