Student Leadership

At Hornchurch High School, we believe that developing leadership skills is a vital part of a student’s personal growth. We are proud to offer a wide range of leadership opportunities across all year groups, ensuring every student has the chance to contribute, develop confidence and make a positive impact on school life.

Leadership at Hornchurch High begins early and is nurtured throughout a student’s time with us, helping them build important skills such as communication, responsibility, teamwork and resilience.

Leadership Opportunities

Students can take on a variety of leadership roles, including:

Junior Leadership Team (JLT)

Our Junior Leadership Team represents the student voice at the highest level. The team includes:

  • 2 Head Students
  • 2 Deputy Head Students

These students play a key role in supporting the school, representing their peers, and helping to shape school improvement.

House Leaders

Our House Leaders play a central role in building school community and encouraging participation in house events and competitions. Students in these roles:

  • Represent and promote their house
  • Support and lead house events and activities
  • Encourage teamwork, participation and school spirit
  • Act as role models for younger students

Form Representatives

Each form group elects a Form Representative, giving every student the opportunity to participate in leadership through a democratic process. Form representatives:

  • Share student views and ideas
  • Contribute to student voice discussions
  • Support communication between students and staff

Wellbeing Ambassadors

Students can apply to become Wellbeing Ambassadors, promoting positive mental health and wellbeing across the school. They:

  • Deliver assemblies and awareness campaigns
  • Take part in specialist training
  • Support peers and promote wellbeing initiatives

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors play a key role in creating a safe and respectful school environment. Through an application process, selected students:

  • Lead anti-bullying initiatives and assemblies
  • Promote kindness and inclusion
  • Support student voice on behaviour and relationships

Student Leadership in Action

Across all leadership roles, students are given opportunities to:

  • Lead assemblies and presentations
  • Take part in training programmes
  • Deliver peer sessions (including first aid awareness)
  • Contribute to student voice and school improvement

Through these opportunities, students at Hornchurch High School are empowered to lead, inspire and make a difference both within our school community and beyond.
