Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) Provision

At Hornchurch High School, we recognise the important role that Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) plays in supporting young people to develop into confident, informed and respectful individuals. As a result, RSE is a dedicated and planned part of our wider personal development curriculum for all students.

Through RSE, students are provided with accurate information and opportunities to discuss and explore a range of topics in a safe and supportive environment. Lessons encourage students to consider how these topics affect themselves and others, helping them to develop understanding, empathy and the ability to make informed choices.

The aim of our RSE provision is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to make responsible decisions, build healthy relationships and prepare for life beyond school.

RSE Sessions

RSE is delivered through a carefully planned programme that is appropriate to each year group and complements learning across the wider curriculum. The table below outlines the form time RSE programme. Provision includes:

  • Form Time – one dedicated RSE session every two weeks
  • Civics Lessons – a series of age-appropriate lessons tailored to each year group
  • Guest Speakers and Workshops – additional opportunities throughout the year to enrich learning and provide external expertise

This blended approach ensures students have regular opportunities to revisit key themes and develop their understanding over time.

Further details about the specific content covered in each year group can be found in the RSE section of the Curriculum page.

Our RSE provision is delivered in line with statutory guidance and reflects the needs of our students and wider school community.
