Dear Parents and Carers,
At the Hornchurch High School we understand what a big deal changing schools is from primary to secondary. We take transition very seriously and want our induction system to increase communication, wellbeing and achievement in those early weeks.
We have an induction team consisting of Year 7 form tutors, the Student Welfare Manager/Child Protection Officer and the Year 7 co-ordinator. Their role is to meet all parents, new students and visit each primary school to ensure that the process is as personable and supportive as possible. This ensures that the needs of your child are fully met. We want to ensure that our Year 7 students are provided with a bespoke programme of introduction to Secondary School life, ensuring a solid foundation upon which to build in their later years.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit our school, please feel free to book a visit by contacting us on 01708 691441 or by emailing gwimbush@HornchurchHigh.com.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the Induction Team via rveares@HornchurchHigh.com
An Induction Pack to welcome your child to the Hornchurch High School will be delivered direct to your child’s primary school. Included in the pack are information sheets and forms which must be completed, signed and returned to the school as soon as possible.
At the Hornchurch High, we value and welcome the support of all parents and carers in ensuring that high standards are met in the classroom and that good progress is made by all our students. Our expectations regarding preparation for learning are clear and measurable. We monitor lessons and books to check that all students are reaching the standards we have set and fulfil their potential.
Our expectations are:
- All students should arrive at school with a range of pens, pencils and a ruler. An eraser, coloured pencils and a pencil sharpener are desirable.
- Written work should be neatly presented using a black or blue pen. All drawings should be completed in pencil.
- Titles, dates and key headings should be underlined and clearly visible so that exercise books provide evidence of a ‘learning journey’.
- Exercise books should be free from graffiti or unsuitable pictures or doodles.
- Students should ensure all rewards are recorded in Show My Homework, along with any messages to parents or details of mentoring sessions.
Parents should support the school and their children by:
- Ensuring their child is equipped for learning: subject books, pens, pencils, ruler and a reading book.
- Ensuring their child is on time for school every day for 8.30am and has attendance which is above 95%.
- Attending all parents’ evenings – all dates available on our this website.
- Ensuring that teachers, tutors or Heads of Year are informed of any concerns or queries either by phone, email or by pre arranged meeting to discuss the progress or their child.
- Checking the website regularly to see what activities are happening within school, or the curriculum details for each subject. This provides a good conversation option for discussion regarding school work and individual achievements.
- Times of the school day are detailed below;
