CURRICULUM INTENT

Curriculum Intent

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum for our students, which will prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences ahead of them. We ensure ‘Excellence for All’ in our teaching and learning, our community spirit and our shared experiences of a supportive school life.

The formal curriculum is academic and challenging; it will enable the most aspirational students to access higher levels of study, whilst developing skills and encourage an inquisitive approach to making sense of our place in the world. We offer an excellent careers programme to ensure that our students are knowledgeable regarding the opportunities which will become available to them.

Additionally, we want to develop the wider individual needs of our students. We do so by providing additional curriculum options and extra-curricular opportunities which allow them to tailor their learning to their skills, interests and preferences outside of the formal academic offer. We recognise the responsibility we have to developing the whole child into a well- balanced adult, and we know we are successful in this as our students tell us how much they enjoy and value our school.

Ethos and Values

Our students are proud to belong to Hornchurch High School. They are aware of their responsibilities in maintaining aspirational approaches to their studies, high standards of behaviour and treating others with respect.

Hornchurch High School has traditional values combined with the expectations of a 21st Century Education. We promote the concept of a Hornchurch Family and we are a school where students feel safe and welcome.

Students are expected to work hard and to be the best that they can be. We promote traditional approaches to teaching, ensuring every child is supported to allow them to reach their full academic potential.  We offer a varied and challenging curriculum, and encourage families to be involved in their child’s education at every stage.

Governors play an effective role as our critical friends. We welcome feedback not only from them but also from parents and our local community, as we actively seek opportunities to build links and grow as a school.

As part of the Partnership Learning Multi Academy Trust we continue to develop strong links with other schools thus ensuring we maintain the highest standards of education, training and extra- curricular provision for all our students.

We are a positive school and embrace the ever changing nature of education.  We work hard as a community to ensure that all our students leave us well prepared for the next stage in their education and beyond.
